Embracing Change
The Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, said that the only thing that is constant is change. Change, by definition, is something that we do differently or experience. Change pushes us out of our comfort zones and puts us in uncomfortable situations. The reason why most us avert from change is because it takes away our sense of control over the matter. However, change itself is neither good nor bad because it is influenced mostly by our views upon the matter; the choice belongs to us.
The first step to embracing change is to keep an open mind. The more resistant our mind is to change, the more it affects us negatively. Confirmation bias is the tendency of searching for or interpreting information that favours our preconceptions; If the glass is always half-empty, we will only strengthen this belief by making excuses for the issue. Instead, we should take the opportunity to grow from the experience as it can teach us important lessons. People who view the glass as half-full will always find a way to make things work. Progress is something that cannot happen without change, otherwise we would remain stagnant in the same well-rehearsed routine that leads to nowhere.
Whether we like it or not, change is inevitable. It comes in varying degrees, but it is always there. Therefore, we should be prepared to embrace it, cope with it, and to learn from it. Do not let anything be in your way of improvement and success.
