Training with the best: Part One No Task Too Big or Small
Datuk Dr Wong once told me with a chirpy smile on her face, “Your reward for completing your work is more work”. “There is no task beneath any man or woman, so long as they know it would get the job done. You do it”, she continues as we walk down a flight of steps towards the car from her office from the Ministry of Transport. That was the beginning of an incredible journey and it continues to this very day.
The opportunity to work with Datuk Dr Wong Lai Sum has been a humbling experience, as I had to learn fast, think on my feet, act with caution, control my emotions, communicate appropriately, clearly and concisely. Before I could even take notes, I was reminded about the sense of duty and the need for etiquette. It was my job every morning to make sure the work place was neat and tidy, hot water in the kettle, her schedule updated, and a pot of tea ready for guests.
She had taught me no matter how high we climb in the corporate ladder; your work for the day begins and ends with the most basic things.
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
Luke 16:10
